The setup without the final reveal
Korra leaves the Southern Water Tribe for Republic City, where learning airbending under Tenzin is only one of her challenges. Pro-bending introduces her to Mako and Bolin. Asami's connection to the city's industrial world brings another perspective into the group.
Amon and the Equalists organize against bending power. The conflict asks how a city treats people with different abilities, while placing Korra in a public role she is still learning to handle. The masked leader's full identity is a late-season reveal; the Amon profile contains that spoiler.
Do you need The Last Airbender first?
The earlier show gives useful context for Aang, Katara, Toph and the Avatar cycle. You can still follow Korra's immediate introduction as a new protagonist. If you plan to watch both, release order preserves the earlier show's discoveries and makes the family connections more meaningful.
What follows Air?
Continue to Book Two: Spirits, not to Seven Havens. Korra has three more books after Air. The seasons page lists their lengths and keeps the two series' episode numbering separate.
