Kuvira is a metalbender and the central antagonist of Book 4: Balance. Her campaign to consolidate the Earth Kingdom becomes the Earth Empire conflict.
The promise of order
Kuvira's rise follows instability. Her appeal to order gives context to the support she receives, while her methods and expansion bring her into conflict with Korra and her allies.
The final confrontation
Book 4 includes a spirit-powered weapon and a conflict in Republic City. The finale's new spirit portal belongs to that specific sequence; it should not be casually renamed the Seven Havens cataclysm.
After the television series
Ruins of the Empire continues the political aftermath of Kuvira's story. Read it after finishing the show; Turf Wars is the earlier post-finale comic storyline and centres on a different set of immediate concerns.
