Korra is the Avatar who follows Aang and precedes Pavi. Her four-book series follows her training, political conflicts and changing relationship with the spirit world.
A different starting point from Aang
Korra begins her story with considerable physical bending ability but still has to learn airbending. Her move to Republic City brings her into a society where bending, policing, industry and inequality intersect.
Her closest allies
Mako, Bolin and Asami become central companions. Tenzin is her airbending teacher; his family connects the series to Aang and Katara. Asami's relationship with Korra becomes romantic, with the comics continuing after the television finale.
Four books, different conflicts
Air introduces Amon and the Equalists. Spirits centres on Unalaq and the relationship between humans and spirits. Change brings the Red Lotus conflict. Balance follows the consequences of upheaval and Kuvira's expansion.
What carries into Seven Havens
The later show is set after Korra. Her spirit-world decisions and the severing of her connection to past Avatars are relevant background. Neither fact alone proves that she deliberately caused the later cataclysm. Read the separate catastrophe question before treating a character's accusation as a complete historical account.
